Lord Nathaniel and Lady Swetiua write:
Greetings unto your Royal Majesties, your Grace Duchess Nichelle, and your Excellencies Mariette & Illaria,
We, Lord Nathaniel Schaffer and Lady Swetiua de Torleton, do humbly submit this letter of intent to be named the next Baron and Baroness of the Barony March of Mons Tonitrus. We are a husband and wife team with a diverse set of talents and experiences that we believe will serve the Barony well. We are fully aware of the onus of this position. If chosen, we are prepared to commit ourselves to a three year warrant period.
Nathan Bogardt is known in the Society for Creative Anachronism as Lord Nathaniel Schaffer. He joined the SCA in the Kingdom Of Caid as a hardsuit fighter back in 2010. He was an active member of the Iron Brigade in the Barony of Califia. He continued his fighting journey into the Kingdom of Atenveldt and has been fighting since 2015. He was nominated for the Blood of Fenris for his work with the young adults of Sierra Vista. It is his mundane experience that we assert will serve the Barony well. From 2015 to 2019, he was an English teacher at Buena High School, Sierra Vista’s only High School. He kept his armor in his classroom, when he wasn’t using it of course, as a conversation starter. He learned how to communicate the differences and similarities between the SCA and LARPing or Renaissance Fairs while showing respect to all three communities. He was also a coach for Buena High School FIRST robotics’ team. It was in this capacity that he learned how to lead young people under stressful conditions. He had to work closely with the student officers of the team to make sure all the team’s members had the skills required to build a robot in six weeks and then compete. As much as we would like to think he inspired the students, we know they inspired him. He reached the height of his fighting ability during this time which helped him achieve his current title as Baron’s Hardsuit Champion. During this time he also demonstrated great support to his wife whenever she was an autocrat or an officer.
In the Society for Creative Anachronism, Tammie Bogardt is known as Lady Swetiua de Torleton, (aka Sweetie). She is the wife to Nathan Bogardt, mother to their five grown children, and a woman that blooms wherever she is planted.
We joined the SCA while our children were young. The SCA provided our family a place where there was something for everyone to shine at. Youth combat is what got us hooked. We took joy in making youth armor and watching our children partake in the merriment of learning to be chivalrous young adults. This all started in the Kingdom of Caid. We have been in the Kingdom of Atenveldt for the past seven years.
The Barony March of Mons Tonitrus welcomed our family with open arms. It is here where we learned so much more about the SCA as a whole. She has had the honor and privilege to serve as an officer for both our barony and our Kingdom, as well as in the Kingdom of Caid.
Lady Swetiua has had a robust and well rounded body of work as listed below:
- Lady in Waiting
- Baronial Librarian
- Royal Liaison for Estrella War
- Exchequer for BMMT, Deputy Exchequer for Kingdom of Atenveldt
- Deputy Gate Officer, both in Atenveldt’s Estrella War and Caid’s Great Western War.
For a list of awards she has been honored to receive, please refer to our Kingdom OP. She does hold a Light of Atenveldt, is a Flower of the Desert, and she is also a Star of the Desert.
Her most passionate area of service is in teaching people how to sew. It is always a pleasure to see someone become excited as they learn to make their own garments or accessories. In doing this, she learned that she works best on a one to one teaching style. She likes to see how the person will comprehend and teach accordingly.
We believe that we will be an asset to the Kingdom of Atenveldt as Baron and Baroness for the Barony March of Mons Tonitrus. It is our goal to provide continuity of growth by traveling to where our members are throughout our baronial region and sharing the many aspects of medieval history with others. We especially wish to continue and grow the Barony’s work with the young people of Cochise County. A key part of our strategy in this area is encouraging and empowering the Barony’s officers and populace to share their skills and passions with those outside of the Society. Ultimately, it is the populace that should shine the brightest, and it will be our job as Baron and Baroness to enable that to happen.
We thank you for your time and consideration.
Always,
In Service to The Dream,
Lord Nathaniel and Lady Swetiua

MASTER KOGA TAKASHIROU KAGEHIRO AND HER LADYSHIP HAMASAKI EIWA MIYAKO WRITE:
Letter of Intent from Hamasaki Eiwa Miyako and Koga Takashiro Kagehiro,
For the position of Landed Baroness and Baron of Mons Tonitrus
Unto Their Solar Majesties, Mark and Katrina von Neumannsgrund, Their Excellencies, Mariette and Ilaria, the mighty populace of the Barony March of Mons Tonitrus, and Kingdom Seneschal Mistress Nichelle Whitewolf do we, Master Koga Takashirou Kagehiro, called Taka-Kensei, and Her Ladyship Hamasaki Eiwa Miyako, called Eiwa-Kensai, send this missive with hope it finds you all well and in good spirits.
We send you greetings as well as humbly declaring our intent to be considered to serve our fair Barony as Baron and Baroness. We understand and are more than willing to accept the responsibilities that come along with this service. We willingly pledge ourselves to a three year term of service, if the Populace and Crowns should so choose us to serve in that role. We understand that should our letter be accepted, it will be published in the Thunderbolt.
Eiwa-Kensai came to the Society for Creative Anachronism in Anno Societatus 45, (2010 commonly). It only took one fighter practice in the beautiful lands of Mons Tonitrus for Eiwa-Kensai to know she had found a home, and a family. A little over a year later Eiwa-Kensai was given the opportunity to serve her Barony when she was asked to take on the role of Baronial Herald, the Thunderbolt Pursuivant. She has continued as a warranted baronial officer as Baronial Rapier Marshal, Knight Marshal, Youth Marshal, and Regalia Officer. She has worked on the Estrella War and Southern Crusades staffs multiple years. In her time in the Society, Eiwa-Kensai has been recognized with a number of honors by the Barony and Kingdom. She is a Defender of the White Scarf, a Companion of the Golden Blade, a Companion of the Star of the Desert (Gules & Azure), a Companion of Luxbruder of Atenveldt, a Companion of the Pilgrim of the Desert, a Companion of the Order of the Lynx, a Beacon and a Flower of the Desert, and a Companion of the Fleur de Soleil, an Officer of the Guardians of Atenveldt, a Companion of the Cypher of the Gratia Coronae, twice gifted with the Queen’s Cypher. She is a Guardian of the Saguaro, a Companion of the Silver Morion, a Companion and Centurion of the Sable Chevronels, and Companion of the Sable Harps and was granted Fellowship of the Boar Argent from the Barony of Tir Ysgithr.
Taka-Kensei began his journey in the Society for Creative Anachronism in AS 35 (2000 in the Common Reckoning) in the Kingdom of Drachenwald. While serving as a member of the United States military, he lived in several Kingdoms, including Atenveldt, Caid, Drachenwald, the West, and Ansteora. Though his duties limited his activities, he eventually made his way home to Atenveldt, returning to the Mons Tonitrus. He took on roles as an officer of the Barony, trying his hand as Rapier Marshal, voice Herald (Thunderbolt Pursuivant), and Chronicler. He also served as a Kingdom officer in the marshallate and on the Guards of many Atenveldt Crowns. He has worked on the Estrella War and Southern Crusades staffs multiple years. Taka-Kensei has been recognized with a number of honors by the Barony and Kingdom. He is co-Premier of the Order of Defence of Atenveldt, a Defender of the White Scarf, in the Queen’s Grace, a Companion of the Luxbruder, the Pilgrim of the Desert, a Companion of the Golden Blade, a Companion of the Order of the Star of the Desert (Gules & Azure), Companion of the Order of the Lynx, a Beacon and a Flower of the Desert, a Companion of the Blood of Fenris, a Light of Atenveldt, a Companion of the Cypher of the Gratia Coronae, twice gifted with the Queen’s Cypher. He is a Guardian of the Saguaro, a Companion and Centurion of the Silver Morion, a Companion of the Silver Thunderbolt, a Companion of the Sable Chevronels.
Both of us are rapier fighters, armored combat fighters, archers, practice thrown weapons, create art and support the talented artisans of this Barony and the Kingdom; and we serve always the populace of Mons Tonitrus and Atenveldt in many ways.
We have represented the Barony and Kingdom of Atenveldt in travels to other Kingdoms. Having attended events in Caid and Outlands many times, and having many friends in Artimesia, the West, the East, An Tir, Ansteora, and across the Knowne World. One of the things our travels have shown us is that the Barony March of Mons Tonitrus shines as a bright star across many kingdoms.
We seek to serve as Baron and Baroness out of our love for the Barony March of Mons Tonitrus and believe we can promote the barony and support its populace well. Mons Tonitrus has long been known for its dedication to service, generous charity, its welcoming heart, and its wide-ranging support for the kingdom and one another. The populace works and plays together, and comes together as one in times of need—regardless of divisions by household, what it is that draws us each to the Society, or mundane life. We will continue to foster these qualities and build on the efforts of past bearers of the Coronets.
If chosen to serve, we would use our experiences in the SCA to support and encourage the wide array of activities the populace take part in as Their part of the Dream. Following the hardships and restrictions of the pandemic quarantine, we will work to improve and grow our archery and thrown weapons programs, as well as attempt to revive and develop equestrian activates in the Barony; all while maintaining support for those programs that have grown strong over the years—including armored combat, rapier combat, arts and sciences, and those who serve the Barony and Kingdom.
It takes many hands to make the Barony run; even the smallest service is deserving of thanks. We would seek to show our appreciation, in both small and subtle ways and using the accolades of the Barony, to those who share their time, talents, and resources with our Barony, other Baronies, and the Kingdom. And we would enable and encourage the Officers of the Barony to do the same.
Baronial lands stretch across Southern Arizona. We would seek to expand the Baronial presence into the lands surrounding the heart of the Barony into those areas seldom frequented. We would work with our Chatelaine and Marshals to seek out more demo opportunities, fighter practice locations, and teaching opportunities to allow a wider range of the populace to participate and showcase their talents and share their knowledge throughout the year. And to the greatest extent possible, we would work to aid those who have trouble getting to events in far-flung corners of the kingdom.
Defense of the realm, support of the populace, education of those wishing to learn and encouraging the enjoyment of this our Society: these are the goals for which we will strive if chosen to serve our beloved Atenveldt as Baron and Baroness of Mons Tonitrus.
In service to these glorious lands of Atenveldt, the current and future Crowns, and the Society,
Master Koga Takashirou Kagehiro and Her Ladyship Hamasaki Eiwa Miyako
mka William Bomar and Jennifer Weston

Lord Gregory Whitehawk and Mistress Fiona inghean Mheg Uidhir write:
Unto their Royal Majesties, do we, Gregory and Fiona, send our warmest and most heartfelt greetings.
We, Lord Gregory Whitehawk and Mistress Fiona inghean Mheg Uidhir wish to declare our intent to run for Baron and Baroness of the Barony March of Mons Tonitrus.
To that end, we acknowledge and accept the commitment of three years of service to the Barony March of Mons Tonitrus, of which we have seen the responsibilities as laid out in Corpora and in the Baronial customary. If chosen, we intend to make ourselves available to the populace through all means, be that in person, phone, email or social media.
We have plans to lead the barony forward as events continue to open. We feel that one of the most important roles as Baron and Baroness is helping the Barony to grow. We also intend to provide a continuity for many of the plans and goals initiated by our previous Baroness and Baroness. We plan on increasing our visibility and activities within the community to increase awareness of the SCA.
We wish to see a return of the Courtly Graces. We feel with the number of newer populace members this is of some importance. We feel a good way to start would be to lead by example, hold classes, and encourage others to add to the Dream of these the Current Middle Ages.
We feel it is important to inspire our populace members to become involved with the arts, as well as build the martial communities within our Barony. Between us, we have many years of experience within the Armored Combat, Rapier, and Archery communities, as well as in the Arts.
As we support the Barony, we would also like to lead the Barony to support the Kingdom. We feel it is important to have a strong Baronial presence at Kingdom events as well as supporting the events of other Baronies.
We realize the time commitment that these positions entail, as well as the travel and general expenses that will occur. We are willing and able to commit to this if selected as the next Baron and Baroness. We are prepared to serve a three-year warrant.
Between the two of us, we have held many positions and we have served the Barony in many ways. We each have different skill sets that compliment each other and which will allow us to work together to meet the needs of the Populace, help the Barony grow and thrive, and solve any problems that may arise.
I, Gregory, began participating in the SCA in 1993. I have held the following Baronial positions:
- Chronicler (1993-1997)
- Web Minister (1997-1999)
- Baronial Champion/Captain of the Guard
- Lieutenant of the Guard
- In Charge of Youth Corner
- Youth Combat Marshal (2004-2008)
I, Fiona, began participating in the Barony in 2004. I am a Mistress of the Laurel. I have held the following Baronial positions:
- Captain of Archers (about 5 ½ years)
- Archery Marshal
- Arts and Sciences Champion (twice)
- Unofficial Water Bearer at Fighter Practices (about 8 years)
- List Minister
- Waivers Officer
- Autocrat of several events
- Currently Seneschal
- Currently Baronial Librarian
Thank you for Your consideration as possible future representatives of our wonderous Barony to the Solar Crown. We look forward to the chance of serving the populace, the Barony, and the Kingdom.
Yours in Service to the Dream,
Lord Gregory Whitehawk
Mistress Fiona inghean Mheg Uidhir
